The battle of having to pay for downloadable content rages among many in the gaming community. Many consider it just another way for developers to rip off the gamer. They feel it should be free, especially if it looks like it was at one point in the retail copy of the game. Is DLC worth paying for, should it be free, or is it a legit way for a developer to extend the life of its game?
It all comes down to how you look at it. The value of DLC is dependent on the individual gamer.
In a world driven by money, developers have to make a profit in order to give us those top notch games that make our hearts skip a beat. Sometimes the time constraints cause them to cut things they want to get into the game. DLC gives devs another avenue to pack more into their game. To give us the game they really wanted to.
Should the gamers have to pay for DLC? It’s easy to say NO. In the PC world dlc has been free for years. We are in a new era, DLC is more than likely going to cost us. Is all DLC worth the cost? That is up to the gamer to decide.
If you put 60 hrs into a game and can add another 10 with DLC, is that not worth the cost? Is it selfish to demand more for free?
Is it worth 10 bucks for a Halo fan to get a couple of maps that extend the life of his game?
Is it worth 10 bucks to extend the world of Fallout?
Is it worth 5 bucks to add new cars/tracks/ect. to a game?
Let’s think about all the time/money spent by developers trying to get a game out that we can enjoy. Let’s not be so selfish thinking we should get everything for free. If you enjoy a game and want to extend the life of it, be happy that you have the opportunity to enjoy it for a little longer.
I think DLC is nice for several reasons. It does help keep games fresh for longer periods of time. I hate to think about how many times I have purchased a game only to see it rot on the shelf after i finished it. I also think it allows developers to continue to improve games after they are released without charging a drastically outrageous price.
True enough. I can think of some DLC that kept me playing, for example: The DLC for crackdown, Halo 3, Peggle, and Trials HD. And most recently the DLC for Borderlands. If it is good DLC I will gladly pay for it.
